Hello all! I'm a new owner of a Gold Cap Conure and his name is Paco. My husband has a Canary winged parakeet named Tango. Yogi introduced me to the site and has been helping me out a lot with the stupid things I ask.

Kristina
I'm glad you made it over here. It seems to be a bit slow here now but eventually you will get answers.
No question is stupid except the one that isn't asked. Feel free to ask questions, make comments , and answer posts. We were all in your shoes at one time.I have to admit I have no idea what a canary wing is but I'm going to look it up.

While many people take their conures in the shower I would be very careful to make sure the spray wasn't too strong . I think a better idea is to put a dish in the kitchen sink and let the water drip on the bird. If you have a sink spray that works well too. In either case never take your eyes off the bird.
You can put Paco's 'cage where you can talk to him and he can watch you . Be careful not to spend more time with him than you will be able to when you are busy with other things and cannot be with him all the time. If you give him 10 hours of attention then suddenly have to cut it way down because of other commitments you could end up with a screaming ,feather picking bird.. You might try giving him some of your warm, plain dinner veggies or pasta or rice. Warm sweet potatoes are a comfort food to many birds.

PS Tango is beautiful.

Ok, cool. Paco's cage is right next to the couch so he can very easily see me and jump from his cage to the arm of the couch safely which he decided to do at dinner. Im not so much of a fan of tango right now, he's become VERY cage aggressive towards me since in the last 24 hours...if hes on top of his cage he's fine but if he's in his cage then he'll attack me like theres no tomorow. So plain macaroni would be ok to give paco? before I add the cheese since dairy products are bad for them. Can I give him apple juice? I figure its ok since they can have apples

Hi Kristina - welcome to C&M.
Canary winged parakeets are relatively rare as they have to be bred domestically since their importation from South America is banned. I found info that caged birds have been released and the birds have established self sustaining populations in Lima, Peru, the Los Angeles, San Francisco, California and Miami, Florida areas of the United States, and in Puerto Rico. Although feral birds are showing some recent declines as nesters in the United States, they seem to be doing well in their native habitat. They have a great reputation as very friendly little guys who don't seem to fixate on one person.
Pastas are fine - our two love them and even get a little sauce with theirs. A little cheese doesn't seem to bother them. Juices are fine. Our GCC Tiki also loves a few sips of non-alcoholic beer.
Neither of our birds likes us to put our hands in their cages but Tiki will come off the top of hers OK. Our Cherry Head Mango is 24 and is a survivor of 17 years of poor handling before we rescued her. She is very protective of her house!
Keep the questions coming - that's what we're here for

Kristina! I'm so glad you joined us.
I take Java (Dusky-headed Conure) and Andi (Indian Ringneck) in the shower with me. I have a perch with a big suction cup attached to the side of the shower. It is positioned so the spray from the shower head does not go to it. The water bounces off my body and gets on the birds. Then I hold my finger up to them and they will crawl up my arm to get as much or little (whatever they want) of the spray from the shower head.
They both LOVE it. If I don't have a lot of time, I don't invite them to shower with me, and they scream very loudly the whole time I'm in the shower. There is always some screaming when I take a shower because they take turns. They don't get along with each other and I don't need a bird fight to deal with.
They are always on the perch when I'm using soap on myself. I am careful that they don't get any soap on their bodies.
